The Institute of Physics for Advanced Materials, Nanotechnology and Photonics (IFIMUP) is a physics Research Unit of the University of Porto, operating at Faculty of Sciences aiming to carry out research over a wide range of topics focused on the innovative physical properties of materials at different scales. IFIMUP combine all research experience with the new demands boosted by the leadership of the unique Network of Extreme Conditions Laboratories (NECL) and by a strong commitment on the development of up-to-the-market technological applications to contribute to solve today’s Grand Challenges.

The Faculty of Science, University of Porto is one of the largest institutions in the UP students and scientific productivity. The Centre for Nanotechnology and Smart Materials (CeNTI) is a distinct European Research and Development Centre, equipped with cutting-edge technology, and conducting world-class research and development. Based in Portugal, a highly qualified research team works with partners around the world, to develop multicomponent fibres, smart materials and multifunctional coatings. This research will contribute to improve and assess the real performance of materials and products in different areas (e.g. well-being & health, sports, protection, automotive, aeronautics, renewable energy devices).

INESC TEC is a private non-profit research institution, dedicated to scientific research and technological development, technology transfer, advanced consulting and training, and pre-incubation of new technology-based companies. As an institution operating at the interface of the academic and business worlds, INESC TEC typically applies the knowledge and results generated as part of its research in technology transfer projects, seeking value creation and immediate social relevance.
